Embracing New Technology Within General Dentistry

Over the last several years, there have been numerous technological breakthroughs within the world of general dentistry. These tools have helped to revolutionize the way we perform dental treatments, making them more efficient, accurate and less invasive. Best of all, new tech means less pain and discomfort.

Our goal at Midlothian Family Dentistry is to provide our patients with a compassionate, comfortable and understanding approach. Investing in the latest technology on the market helps to ensure we’re keeping that promise and making your experience at the dentist one to look forward to.

New Tech for Your Teeth

At Midlothian, we’re proud to utilize some of the latest and greatest dental technology. These tools help us provide you with a better, safer dental experience. Technological innovations in dentistry are widespread, including:

  • Sterilization. Whenever you enter a medical office, you should be met with a sterile, clean environment. We begin and end every appointment by cleaning, disinfecting and protecting each operator and its fixtures with anti-microbial treatments and protective coverings. All of our instruments undergo vigorous multi-stage ultrasonic cleaning and debridement processes. We also test and monitor autoclaves on a regular basis to ensure they meet OSHA standards for sterility.
  • 3D Scanning. The 3D scanner we use allows us to take accurate, fully digital impressions of our patient’s teeth, gums and jaw. Our scanning technology gives us an incredibly detailed view to spot any issues while also allowing us to create nearly perfect dental implants, retainers, crowns and more. Best of all, it’s a painless, comfortable procedure without any goop or gagging.
  • Laser Bacteria Removal. Removing harmful bacteria that can cause gum disease is one of our top goals, and with our low-level energy laser, we can kill up to 99.9% of bacteria around teeth. This tool also helps reduce pain, promote fast healing, treat TMJ disorders, and more.
  • Water Flossing. One of the newer items on the market is the Waterpik flosser. Water flossing effectively removes plaque up to 50% more than conventional floss. This tool can also be used in and out of the dental office, which is why we love it so much! If you have questions about water flossing, our team is happy to show you how to use one and recommend the right device for you and your family members.
  • Cancer Screening. As dental professionals, we are uniquely positioned to catch signs of oral cancer. Early detection is key, which is why we’ve invested in a painless cancer screening tool called Identafi. This pen-like device uses wavelength light technology to detect changes in tissue that occur with oral cancer. If you experience any signs of oral cancer or have a history of oral cancer in your family, our dentists can utilize this technology to keep tabs on your health throughout your life.
  • Ultrasonic Drill. The idea of drilling into teeth isn’t exactly a pleasant one – but new technology has made the process better for patients and dentists alike. Our ultrasonic drills maximize cutting efficiency to preserve the protein molecules within your teeth, allowing the bone to re-grow itself. This also results in less swelling and pain. If you’ve experienced dental anxiety due to loud, painful drilling, we’re more than happy to show you how our devices work and why they can provide you with a more comfortable experience overall.

The Future of Dentistry

From augmented reality (AR) to virtual reality (VR) to artificial intelligence (AI), there’s so much room for growth in dental technology. Over the last two decades alone, we’ve embraced the latest and greatest tools to get a better view of your oral health without any added discomfort. All of these advancements pave the way for current and future dental professionals to provide the best care possible.

We are excited to see what the future holds. With 3D printing quickly finding use in general dentistry, intra-oral cameras getting more accurate by the day, and regenerative dentistry on the horizon – the way we care for our patients will only continue to improve.

Our Promise to You

Midlothian Family Dentistry has always been at the forefront of adopting new technologies. We have continued to adopt the latest technologies in all areas of our practice. When you choose us to provide your treatment, you’re assured that our continued training on the use of these advanced devices allows our doctors to conduct procedures designed to help reduce pain, increase healing performance, and provide more predictable and successful treatment outcomes.
