Upgrade Your Smile with Dental Bonding

Accidents happen. Fortunately, dental bonding is a quick and easy way to repair chipped, cracked, or decaying teeth. Teeth bonding can also close gaps and change the shape of your teeth to create the smile you've always wanted.

At Midlothian Family Dentistry, we offer complete dental bonding procedures, including:

  • Cosmetic bonding, ideal for those who wish to repair discoloration or decay on individual teeth. This procedure can also close gaps between teeth and protect exposed roots due to receding gumlines.
  • Resin bonding, which can address issues such as short or irregularly shaped teeth.
  • Chipped tooth bonding, for patients who recently experienced chipping or breaking a tooth and require a fast fix.

Although minor, some dental flaws in need of teeth bonding can require immediate assistance. Midlothian Family Dentistry specializes in dental emergencies and is committed to providing our patients with outstanding, comprehensive, and judgment-free care 24/7.

How Does Dental Bonding Work?

Dental bonding is the application of composite resin to the tooth's surface. This simple and inexpensive cosmetic procedure can typically be completed in just one visit.

The latest developments in dental technology allow our dentists to create a perfect mold of your tooth. Composite bonding ensures your smile will be back to normal in no time.

When you arrive for your appointment, you can expect your provider to walk you through several steps to repair your teeth:

  1. Cleaning. Your dentist will clean the affected tooth and surrounding teeth to create an ideal bonding surface.
  2. Resin Bonding. The resin will then be applied to shape the bonding material.
  3. Setting. With a UV light, your provider will bond and dry the material to your tooth.
  4. Shaping. To ensure the composite resin bonding looks and feels like your natural tooth, additional shaping may take place.
  5. Polishing. To finish the process, the tooth and cosmetic bonding will be polished for a natural look.

Dental Bonding Prep & Aftercare

Like all dental procedures, cosmetic bonding requires proper oral care to ensure long-term results.

During your visit, your provider will discuss aftercare best practices as well as preventative care. To protect resin bonded teeth, try to avoid:

  • Chewing on ice or other hard foods
  • Eating chewy or tough candy
  • Biting your nails
  • Picking at or touching the bonding
  • Grinding your teeth
  • Highly acidic foods

If you notice any sharp edges or discomfort following your teeth bonding procedure, schedule an appointment with us right away.

Dental Bonding FAQs

Does teeth bonding hurt?

With proper numbing and our extra steps to ensure your comfort, teeth bonding should be painless. While most cosmetic bonding procedures do not require anesthesia, Midlothian Family Dentistry is recognized for our sedation dentistry expertise and is happy to customize your experience for comfort.

How long does dental bonding take?

Most composite resin bonding procedures can be completed within 30-60 minutes per tooth. Our dentists are equipped to handle dental emergencies promptly and professionally. Most often, you will be able to be seen within just a few hours of your call, if not immediately.

How long is the recovery time?

Dental bonding does not require additional recovery time. You will be able to resume normal activities immediately after the procedure.

Does dental bonding require multiple visits to the dentist?

Most cosmetic bonding procedures can be completed in one visit. However, if the resin bond feels sharp, impacts your bite, or is damaged following the initial appointment, you will need to return to the office for additional shaping and polishing.

Will cosmetic bonding change the way my retainer fits?

Our goal is to make sure the composite bonding feels and acts like your natural tooth, but it is possible for dental bonding to slightly alter the way your retainer fits. If this occurs, please get in touch with us.

Can this procedure be used to address all oral issues?

No. Dental bonding is an excellent option for minor tooth flaws, but it cannot address every issue. In some cases, veneers and crowns may be the best solution.

Is teeth bonding right for me?
